Skincare Review: Earth Therapeutics Heels So Soft Set

This set comes with 1 lotion, 1 pumice sponge and a pair of gel lined socks.

Intensive Heel Repair Moisturizing Balm - This lotion is used to prevent or treat dry/rough skin; very moisturizing and has a very minty scent

Pumice Sponge - very lightweight and can used in the shower or during a foot soak -  helps exfoliate rough skin; I don't really think one should use the pumice very often because this will just make your skin rougher than normal

1 Pair Soft-Heels Gel Sleeves - toe-less sock like sleeve that moisturizes and  protects your skin from calluses; best if used in conjunction with the Moisturizing Balm

Makeup Review: Paul and Joe Creamy Matte Foundation

PACKAGING: Paul and Joe's Packaging is evocative of a 1950's boudoir glam.
It is very feminine with pastel colors.  Comes in a bottle with a small spatula.

CONSISTENCY: This  foundation is on the thick side because it is very creamy.  But this has a cream to powder finish which is very matte after application

COVERAGE: It has a medium to full coverage but very light on the skin, you can hardly notice or feel it on your face

SHADE AVAILABILITY: From what I saw there were 6 shades to choose from

OVERALL: I know it is on the expensive side (Php2,375.00) but it really gave me a matte finish which is something that I always try to achieve.  I think I found my HG foundation!!

* This also has a very slight perfume-y scent which reminds of  expensive cosmetics from long ago.
Available at Rustan's Department Store.

Makeup Let Downs of 2010

1. Chanel Mat Lumiere Foundation - This broke me out all over my face!!!  But will give it another try ;-)

2. Dermalogica Oil free Matte Block - Too expensive for a sunblock

3. Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Powder - this powder made my skin look ashy

4. Philosophy Supernatural Mineral makeup - it is too shimmery for it to look anything but natural

5. Stila Lip Glaze - The formula is too sticky/too thick for my taste

6. Laura Mercier Eye Basics -an eye shadow base that creased on my lids

7. MAC Prep+Prime Eye - an eye shadow base that made my shadows crease

What are some of the makeup products you regret buying?

Top 5 Makeup Brushes

Among the different types of brushes available, these are my favorite...

1. MAC/Sigma 217.  This brush is very versatile, it can be used to apply the eyeshadow crease color or to blend or to apply an all over lid color.

2. MAC/Sigma 224.  Great for applying concealer under the eye area or on blemishes on the face.

3. Sonia Kashuk Flat Top Buffer/Hakuhodo G527.  Great for applying liquid foundation and pressed powder.

4. Bloom Blush Brush. It is very lightweight and has a flat rounded shape which fit my face perfectly for applying blush

5. MAC 168.  I use it for applying loose powder or for contouring.  Because of its tapered shape it reaches the inner eye corners without any problems. Makes applying contour shades below your cheek bones easier because it has a pointy tip

See you next time!

MakeUp Review: Laura Mercier Illuminating Quad

My brother gave this to me for Christmas. It's not like he picked it but more like he paid for it. I chose Mocha Spice. The timing couldn't have been more perfect since my Palladio mosaic powder was threatening to pull the plug on me. This quad has 4 light neutral shades that when combined gives a subtle glow that can be a blush/bronzer. It's around $34 I think but definitely worth it. Check Rustan's if they have it already and make sure you get one. I love it!

Dr. Evil's Favorites/Not so favorites

Favorites:
1. Bare Minerals Lipstick in Plum Brulee and Gingersnap
2. Bloom Lipgloss in Pout-goes well with nudes
3. My ever reliable Boscia Tinted Moisturizer
4. Benefit High beam
5. Lip butter in Quince mixed with Sugar Lip treatment in Rose

Not so favorites:
1. Japonesque contour blush brush- after a while it sheds like crazy
2. Smashbox 0-glow for the cheeks
3. Makeup Forever concealer in Full Coverage- not doing a good job covering my scars

Skincare Review: Lush Body Butter

I recently tried Lush's body butter specifically the one that has charcoal in it. Of course I was intrigued right away but sadly, i was disappointed. For one, the soap itself is a disappointment because it disintegrates so fast you hardly get to see the results. It's also pricey for a small bar. The color isn't much much of a grabber either but as I said I was curious to try it. To be frank, it's not a good buy at all. But aside from the body butter, I was happy with the sugar scrub I got. Check it out. It's by Lush too. That's it for now. Til then...Merry Christmas to you all!!!

Favorites for the year 2010

FACE:
Primer: I have been using the Murad oil Control Mattifier SPF 15 (been using it with the Laura Mercier Oil free Primer)
Foundation: I have been loving Dior Nude Foundation
Loose Powder: Laura Mercier Loose Powder because it has a beige tint that doesn't make my skin look ashy

EYES:
Primer: Although I love Urban Decay Primer Potion, I have been using Smashbox Eye Lid Primer because I want to finish it already
Eye Shadow: For the eye shadow I have been reaching for my 88 Colors Warm palette and NARS Nepal

CHEEKS:

LIPS:
Lip Balm: EOS Honeydew Honeysuckle
Lipstick: NARS Dolce Vita and Giorgio Armani Shine Lipstick #5

Skincare Review: Dermalogica Oil Free Matte Block SPF 20

Keeping one's face protected from the sun is always a priority and having a few bottles on hand is always a  plus.  So I decided to get 1 from my current skincare line which is Dermalogica.

PROS:
Since it's from Dermalogica I know that it will not break me out because I am currently using different products from that brand.
It says that it's oil free and has a matte finish.
Can replace your morning moisturizer because it already moisturizes while it protects.
Although it has no artificial fragrance there is a very fresh scent to it, probably because of the Green Tea extract.
Consistency is on the water-y side which makes it light when being applied.  It also makes it easier to blend
Readily available at Rustan's Department Store.

CONS:
It only has a soft matte finish after application.
Not high enough SPF, I would prefer an SPF 30 or higher.
This sunblock is a bit on the expensive side, I think is it is on the Php1,600+ to Php2,000.00 range.

Overall, I don't think this product is worth buying.  There are other sunblock half the price with a higher SPF like Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunblock with an SPF 50+.

Thanks for reading and come back soon!

December 2010 Favorties

I am loving the following:

1. AHAVA Intensive Nourishing Hand Cream - I learned about this product through my brother and he really swears by it.  After trying it.......What can I say, it is amazing! I have been suffering from dry patches on my fingers, to the point that I would always wrap it in band-aid just to keep it from drying out some more.  Now I can go without having to use them.  I would apply a generous amount from time to time just to keep it moisturized.  It has a thick consistency, looks greasy but it's not and a floral scent which I am not crazy about.  But I will endure the smell because it is very effective.  I have been band-aid free for a few days now!

2. MAC Tenderling Blush - a new favorite when I want a natural looking blush

3. Bare Escentuals Lipstick in Nude - a pinkish nude that is similar to my natural lip color but better type of shade

4. Dior Nude Foundation -  this foundation helps control the oil on my face

5. LUSH Snow Globe Soap - the scent is very refreshing; so clean

Wishlist for the New Year

Foundation: YSL Matte Touch Foundation - I am currently obsessed with perfecting my makeup base that's why I am constantly keeping an eye out for a good matte foundation

Concealer: Bobbi Brown corrector and concealer-  People have been raving about these products and I would like to see what the hype is all about

Eyes: MAC pigment shadows - Just plain curiosity

Lips: Chanel Liquid Lipstick in Dragon - yep, an amazing red shade.  Too bad its out of stock in Rustan's (go figure)

What are you wishing for this coming year?

Makeup Review: Laura Mercier Color Wardrobe Palette

This is 1 of the gifts I got from my husband....of course he didn't actually go to the store and buy it himself :)

PACKAGING: a hefty booklet type of palette in white leather; has a large mirror too (nice!)

COLORS: this palette comes with 6 eye shadows, all in nude shades (love it!), 3 blush powders and 8 lipstains (shades vary from light to berry- loving it as well); the sizes are actually a decent size and not one of those that are so small that after a number of uses you are hitting pan on it.

CONSISTENCY:  the eye shadows have a hint of shimmer in them, some brighter (with glitter) than others (but lasts a long time on my lids); 1 of the 3 powder blushes is shimmery while the other 2 are matte; the lip stains are very pigmented and  moisturizing; most are not shimmery.

This palette also comes with mini makeup brushes so it is very convenient to bring when you have to go out of town and you can't bare the thought of not bringing any makeup with you.

What can I say aside from the posh packaging, the products are very good too; very wearable for a daytime look or night time.

Available at Rustan's Department Store for Php3,500.00 + ( can't remember the actual amount sorry)

Are you a fan of Laura Mercier makeup products?

Skincare Review: Lush Christmas Goodies

I couldn't resist the scent coming from the Lush store so I happily indulged.  This time I decided to get 2 of their Christmas edition soaps.

Snow Globe - it is a light blue soap with little white round soaps inside;very foamy; it smells very lemon-y that I am always tempted to bite it :)
very refreshing; love it!! As much as I am loving this soap right now, what I don't like about it is that the white globes get separated from the blue part of the soap so the whole soap turns into small pieces after awhile.
Minimal inconvenience if you ask me.

I will have to go back and buy some more before it runs out!!

Lemslip - has a lemon-y scent to it but not as yummy as the Snow Globe.  Haven't really used this one so a review will soon after I use up all my Snow Globe

Skincare Review: Dermalogica Concealing Spot Treatment

I had a tiny sample of this from the Acne Kit and I liked it so I decided to get the actual size.
Before using I found out that you have to give it a good shake for it solidifies somehow (I don't know why) but once all shaken it is very liquid-y.  After dabbing a small amount onto zits you have to blend it immediately because it dries up quickly.  It helped my breakouts to calm down after 2 days.  In one instance I had a zit was just about to breakout so I thought of applying this treatment 3 times a day.  Voila, it stopped it from getting bigger!!!! I am convinced that it is because of this spot treatment!

It is available in Rustan's for about Php1,000.00+

Makeup Review: MAC Melba Blush

This is my very first MAC blush and I made sure I researched before heading out to the MAC counter.  I was in the market for either a light dusty peach or a dusty/nude pink.  I had a  few in mind but unfortunately what you see on their website is not always available here in the Philippines.

It is very pigmented and blends easily.  Would look great when you just want a bit of color on your cheeks to go with your  nude smokey eye makeup.

After a whole day of errands at the end of the day I could still see a hint of the blush! :) nice!

What are your favorite MAC blushes?

Makeup Review: Chanel Mat Lumiere Foundation

I have heard that this foundation is good for people with oily skin. So I jumped right in.

PROS:
1. After application it is definitely matte!

2. With a mattifying primer before application It was able to withstand the heat for a few hours before I had to blot

3. Has an SPF 15 and is long lasting

CONS:
1. It is a bit on the expensive side

2. It broke me out!!!!! Php2,600+ down the drain!!! :((((

I wish makeup counters here in the Philippines give out foundation samples for you to try out for a couple times so you can make an informed decision if your skin will react to it positively or negatively.

Thanks for stopping by and see you next time!

Makeup Review: Bare Minerals Lipstick in Plum Brulee

It's been a while since my last review and what better way to come back , with a new shade of lipstick. Another dramatic one but less work. My last review was the Chanel #147 which was very Morticia Adams so I had to downplay it a bit with a bit of pink gloss which came out very well. This time, the Plum Brulee did just that with one application. The lipstick itself is a bit thick so make sure you moisturize your lips first. I matched this with the Prestige Lipliner in Plum (how convenient right?). Don't you just love it when you already own the same shade of lipliner?

If you wish to see other shades of the Bare Minerals Lipstick please check our web store. Hope to hear from you soon.

Haircare review: Avalon Organics Conditioner with Olive and Grape seed

I mentioned last month that I just had a perm and so a conditioner is a must especially at the ends (which needs a lot of moisturizing). I recently made a new discovery and its my current favorite. The olive and grape seed makes my ends soft and gives that refreshing/earthy scent. I highly recommend it. The best thing about it is it's available in Healthy Options and it's around P400, i think. They have other brands too but so far this is "the one".

Happy Hair-lidays!!!

Makeup Tool: MAC 227 Alternative

I have been wanting a large eye shadow brush that can be used to apply a highlight color or to sweep 1 eye shadow shade all over the lid.  I originally wanted the MAC 227 because it is large enough for that purpose but the price is kind of high (Php2,400. or thereabouts).

I was scouring Beauty Bar and I saw Japonesque had a number of brushes.  Dr. Evil already got 1 and said that it was soft and very nice.

What I discovered was the Japonesque Large Pro eye shadow fluff brush.....an alternative to the MAC 227; at a lower price!! The Japonesque is Php 1,350.00.  Just like the MAC, this brush is large enough to cover most of my eyelid and it is very soft as well.

Hope this helps and thanks for stopping by!

Makeup Review: NYX Mega Shine Lipgloss

Packaging: Black top, transparent body and comes with a doe foot applicator.  The applicator itself is a bit on the bigger side compared to the others that I have

Consistency:  Slightly sticky but it won't look like as if you're drooling; still easy to apply

Color: NYX has a large selection to choose from

Scent: Has a mild floral-ly scent

If you're one who enjoys a gloss with every application of lipstick, this gloss is for YOU!

Available at Gorgeousme Store! Come check it out!!

Makeup Review: MAC's Ruby Woo Lipstick

I have been searching for a nice red lipstick and this is 1 of my favorites.  It has a blue-ish red tint to it that makes my teeth look whiter...nice!  It has a matte finish and it is very long lasting.  I had dinner and a mug of tea and I still had lipstick after, didn't even need to reapply ( I was just at home by the way) :)

You can always top if off with a red gloss, which I did.  I used the Rimmel Long Lasting and I think it helped the lipstick to stay on longer.

I can now scratch this off my wish list :)....thanks Hikaru!

Makeup Review: Dior Nude Foundation

PROS:

 1. After application this foundation gave me a matte finish.  I still use a mattifying primer underneath.  After a few hours I noticed that my face was on the oily side but not so much that it was leaning towards gross.  It only gave me a dewy look.  I noticed that whenever I used this foundation, I didn't have to blot as much as when I use the Laura Mercier Oil-free foundation/ LM Silk Foundation.  I tried not setting it with a loose powder and I noticed that my face less is less oily after a few hours

2. It also comes in a pump bottle which makes it easy to use.

3. It is easy to blend once applied

4. It is hydrating which helps keeping the production of oil at bay;  I was told that even though I have an oily skin, some parts are actually dehydrated

CONS:

1. It is on the pricey side but for those of you who are having a problem with oiliness, this is a must buy, it is worth it in my opinion.

2.  Limited shade selection and limited stocks available

Thanks for stopping by!

November Favorites 2010

Here are some of the items I have been loving this November.

1. Bloom Blush Brush - Because of this brush I am excited to wear blush every chance I get :)

2. Korres Tinted Moisturizer - I was given a sample to try and I am loving it.  I was expecting it to be greasy but it wasn't  bad as I thought it would be.  My face just looked dewy.  Of course I am still hoping that it wouldn't be but I would take this any day than any other tinted moisturizer.

3. Benefit Dandelion - I first saw this in In Style circa 2000 (I think) and finally I have 1!!! It is a pale soft pink that gives your cheeks that natural 'flushed' look and has a very slight shimmer.  You can use it as a blush or as a face powder.  Very cute packaging and wonderful scent. Available at Gorgeousme Store.

4.  Tarte Lip Surgence in Exposed - A matte lipstick that's in a pencil form that has a beige/nude shade.  Very wearable for everyday.  It also has a peppermint scent to it.  Also available at Gorgeousme Store.

Makeup Look: Color match-up II

Dark Gray and Brown Eyeshadow

Once again you can apply a bronzer then use a light peachy blush over it.  For lips, anything on the peach side as well to compliment the brown shade on the eyes.

Different Shades of Brown Eyeshadow

This time a bronzer is optional, for the blush you can use a peachy pink shade ( just like Nars Orgasm).  Lipstick, you can use a beige nude or a peachy nude shade.  Gloss is optional as well but if you do decide to wear one, try using a light pink over your lipstick.

Hope these ideas help you with your makeup pairings.  Thanks for stopping by and see you next time!

MakeUp Review: Sugar Lip Treatment by Fresh (Rose)

I finally got a hold of this sought after lip balm By Fresh. It's sort of pinkish red that's close to the color of your lips (comes out very natural if you ask me). It also has that rosy scent which is not overpowering at all. It makes you want to put it over and over again. It's a good lip treatment that can stay on even after drinking because of its hydrating properties. I consider this pricey for a lip balm but well worth your buck. Hongkong is your best bet to get one of these but they still run out from time to time. So hop on that plane and go! Check out their glosses and scents too.

Makeup Look: Makeup Color match-ups

Some color combination ideas for an evening, everyday, bridal and everything else in between.

Dark Blue/ Navy Blue Eyeshadow

For your eye makeup not to clash with the rest of your face, you can apply a bronzer on your cheeks to contour.  Then you can use a dusty rosy tan (nothing too pink or too peachy) shade.

As for lips, try using a nude shade and then you can top it off with a light pink shimmery gloss.

Thanks for reading and come back soon for more color match-up ideas.

Makeup Look: Holiday Party Makeup Look

For a simple but ultra glam look you can opt for the 'sparkly' look which is perfect for Christmas or New Year's Eve parties.

The Look:

1. Your foundation of choice

2. Apply an eye lid primer; then apply a sparkly/glittery neutral shadow all over the lid

3. Curl your lashes and then apply mascara

4. Light dusting of blush; you can also choose to apply some highlighter

5. Vavavoom Red Lipstick

Voila! Ready to party 'til dawn!

MakeUp Review: Chanel Rouge Allure in Maniac (147)

I'm into the plum/prune shade these days only because I already have a lip liner to match it with. So I went on my lipstick search with my gal pal, L. We ended up at the Chanel counter and found "THE" one. When I used it the next day here's what I noticed.... it's very very plum indeed and found it a bit thick when applying it. Morticia is that you?? So a lip brush is highly recommended for application. And since I found it too dark I blotted it first before putting gloss over it. (Oh don't forget that my lipliner is already in place from the start)....From the gloss I was able to lighten the shade and so I was confident again. Thanks L for my Christmas gift.:))

Practical MakeUp

Here's my list of some "practical makeup" for you penny pinchers out there. I think it's worth a shot.

1. Mosaic powder/Brick palettes- they have a variety of shades in one compact which you can use as an all-over powder or individually as an eyeshadow/highlighter. The one I have is from Palladio which is available at the Beauty Bar. Bobbi Brown has the brick palettes but I'm pretty sure other brands have it as well.

2. Brushes- I recently purchased the Japonesque brush which has multiple uses. It can be a powder blush, a blush brush (for contouring and highlighting) and a bronzing blush as well.

3. Cheek and Lip Stain- Self-explanatory. Benefit has the famous one called Benetint. They have 2 shades. Check out Tarte too. Benetint is available at our GM webstore.

4. BB cream- This is one of Korea's latest skincare gems. It's a foundation, moisturizer and sunblock rolled into one. My friend gave me a new tube to try from Etude House. I like it better than the one that Face Shop has because it's smoother to apply.

Hope they help. Can't be too practical these days. :)

Makeup Review: StudioMakeup Super Shine Lip gloss

I have this gloss in shade 6, Flirt and it matches the StudioMakeup Lipstick in shade 5 Vibrant Wine.

PACKAGING: It comes in a slim tube container with a black lid and  transparent body.  It has a doe foot applicator.

TEXTURE: Surprisingly this lip gloss is not very sticky which is good (I hate super sticky lip gloss)

EFFECT: Helps the lipstick color be more vibrant especially if you have the same shade of gloss; the gloss will also help your lipstick retain its color; you might have to use an oil based remover to get rid of all the color on your lips

OVERALL:  After having a mug of tea I found that I still have most of what I applied earlier; some may have rubbed off on the mug but I still had lips full of lip color; the lipstick didn't settle on the lines on my lips and no bleeding either.

Available at Beauty Bar for Php795.00

Thanks for reading and see you next time!

Makeup Tool Review: Bloom Blush Brush

I was looking for an alternative to a MAC 116 ( a semi flat dome blush brush) and I found this.  This brush is amazingly soft!! It also grabs a lot of color so you will need to tap some off every time you apply blush on your cheeks.

Available at Beauty Bar for Php860.00 ( I think) :)

Thanks for stopping by and see you next time!

Makeup Review: StudioMakeup Rich Hydration Lipstick

I have this lipstick in shade 5 Vibrant Wine and it's like a deep magenta color, a darker version of the Armani Lipstick 601 and Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Damned.

PACKAGING: A shiny black container with a transparent bottom.  For you to open the lipstick, you have to push the bottom part inward.

COLOR SELECTION: Beauty Bar has about 8 or 9 shades to choose from.

TEXTURE: It has a very smooth texture and very moisturizing

EFFECT: This particular color has the effect of making my teeth appear whiter than they really are (which is always a plus); long lasting too

OVERALL:  Definitely a good buy even though there aren't many shades to choose from.
This brand is available at Beauty Bar for Php795.00

Thanks for stopping by and see you next time!

MakeUp Review: Nyx Lip Lacquer Pot (Ultraviolet)

I had the chance to use our new Nyx Lip Lacquer Pot last Saturday. This lip lacquer is actually a lip stain...very vibrant and glossy. After eating and drinking, obviously the gloss is gone but the stain is still there so in my opinion it was a success. So for that fabulous look, I suggest using a lip liner first then the lip stain to keep everything in place. Now you have Kissable lips. :)) All in all, it's another great buy. The color is a winner! ... Another "Red" that I can use during my night out of town, which sadly, is not often. :( but who says you can't wear it at home.:))

Available at Gorgeous Me web store in 4 shades. Hope to hear from you soon.

Makeup Tool Review: Tweezerman Tweezers

I have been hearing a lot about this brand and thought I should see what the fuss was all about.  Well, I am a convert for sure!!  I am so amazed at how even the shortest eyebrow hair is not match for this little sucker.  It comes in different colors so it's not the boring silvery tweezers that's so common.  Plus, because of this colored material my fingers didn't really slip and slide.  The one thing I didn't like about this was that it was a bit short for my hand.  Since I hold it like a pen I was hoping the tweezers will rest on my forefinger when being held.  But I can definitely overlook that bit.

Available at Beauty Bar for Php 450.00 to Php650.00

Thanks for reading and see you next time!

Makeup Tips: Christmas Parties

Soon it will be the season of Christmas parties and we all want to look our best.  So here are some tips to remember when preparing for these parties.

FOUNDATION - use a formula with NO SPF in it ( it washes you out in pictures)

UNDER EYE CONCEALER - remember not to use anything TOO white or else you'll have reverse raccoon eyes (not pretty!)

MASCARA - another must to brighten/open up your eyes; make sure to curl your lashes first

BLUSH - always remember to blend so you won't look like a doll

LIPSTICK - again, anything easy to reapply

Say cheese!!

Thanks for stopping by and see you next time!

MakeUp Review: Laura Mercier Eye Basics

I cant even begin to explain why I have this in my possession. I asked for it as a gift from L and what a big mistake...huge! (which movie L??) Here's what I didn't like about it:
1. It was too dry to apply
2. The shade was all wrong (probably my fault)-got the Wheat
3. Made my eyes look sleepy and deformed in some way. scary.

This is just me but still your choice. Laura Mercier has one of the best makeup formulas around but this is not one of them.

MakeUp Review: Benefit Highbeam

For someone who's not into eyeshadow, this is the closest one I've got.  Been using it for the past 2 days going on my 3rd and I'm loving it. It's becoming a "never leave home without (using) it" kinda thing. I like the pinkish hue and its subtle sparkle. I use it on my lids and brow bone to make them alive. It can be used on the cheeks too, which I will probably experiment on in the next couple of days. This definitely made it to my wish list.

Makeup Tips: Formal Dinners

These are the items you can wear for a formal dinner.

FOUNDATION - if you have a very nice skin you can get away with wearing a sheer type of foundation otherwise a medium coverage; or a tinted moisturizer if your skin is perfect (lucky you!)

PRIMER - if your skin is on the dry type, no need to use a primer;  but if your skin type is on the combination to oily, you might want to consider using a primer that will help your foundation to stay on longer; eyeshadow primer is also a must to prevent shadow from creasing

EYE SHADOW- you can opt for a neutral smokey eye or a shimmery single color on your lids

EYELINER - either a pencil, a gel or with an eyeshadow, I think using an eyeliner gives your makeup look a little 'oomph'

Nailcare Review: Orly Nail Lacquer

I have this nail polish in the shade Red Flare.  I always thought I wasn''t going to like it because I was loyal to OPI.  Well, can I just tell you that I was really surprised at its quality.  Given that it is a bit more expensive than OPI ( at Rustan's) so there has got to be a reason why that is.  Yup, the color was so vibrant and solid and shiny too! The only thing that I didn't like about it was that I had a difficult time removing it from my nails. The color lasted for about 3 days without chipping.

But definitely a good buy.

Skincare Review: Avene Redness Relief soothing cream

1. Has a light green tint to it to help minimize redness (just like with green concealers)

2. Very creamy and easily absorbed by the skin

3. Has an SPF 25 that's why I use it before applying makeup (serves as my sunscreen)

4.  Helped me with my sunburn tremendously; after 3 days of use the pain was gone

Wishlist Tag - Wishlist for the Holiday Season 2010

What am I wishing for this holiday 2010??? :)))

1.  Full size Dermalogica Products :) - doesn't matter which, I want them all :))

2. Ruby Woo Lipstick from MAC - this was given to me recently! :) yey!

3. A super matte liquid foundation - I haven't found the one that will put all my foundations to shame

4. Tarte Lip Stain in Exposed (nude matte)

What are you wishing for this Christmas?  Thanks for stopping by and see you soon!

MakeUp that's "safe" to give

Sometimes you don't know a person's preference when it comes to makeup, but for me, some I think are "safe" to give whether or not she's an addict.

1. Lipstick/lip balm- you should pick those on the berry side. This is just to give life and a hint of color on your lips. I recommend Korres Lip Butter in Plum.

2. Tinted Moisturizer- gives a hint of color without it being too heavy on your skin. It absorbs it quickly so you wont feel that you have something on.

3. Mascara- an instant eye brightener. Make sure lashes are curled. Introduce her to an eyelash curler as well.

4. Powder- preferably on the neutral side. Try giving her the loose one. I find pressed powder too concentrated and I've noticed some people put it on with such harshness that its gets scarily kabuki.

5. Sheer powder blush- I specified powder since cream is trickier to put on. Once its on your skin there's no turning back.

Remember Christmas is fast approaching so visit our web store soon. It's a must!

MakeUp Accessories you shouldn't do without

Here are some that you shouldn't forget to have once you become a makeup junkie. They are inexpensive if you know where to look and portable.

1. Lip pencil/eyeliner sharpener-got the one of prestige. very inexpensive and it contains 2 sharpeners (1 for the slim pencil and 1 for the thick ones). Available at Beauty Bar.
2. Brush case-usually has at least 5 slots for the brushes. perfect for trips.
3. MakeUp Brush cleaner-clean your brushes at least every 2 weeks to prevent bacteria from building up
4. Eyelash curler rubber refills-normally when you buy a curler, refills are included but better to be on the safe side and make sure you have backup for the backup.
5. Lip Brush-those who haven't mastered the art of putting on lipstick by itself.

Skincare Review: Avene Thermal Spring Water Soothing Serum

Avene is popularly known for their Hydrotherapy Center which centers around
Avene's Thermal Spring Water and its soothing properties.  The Center
addresses a variety of skin problems such as atopic dermatitis, psoriasis,
eczema and burns.

This is how my skin reacted to this product:

1. After undergoing cauterization, I found that being given this Avene product
was very timely.  Since I have tiny burn marks on my face I used this serum to help relieve the stinging.  It wasn't painful at all which made me do a huge "phew!"

2.  It is very creamy and my face felt very moisturized; dries quickly too

3. One pump is what I used to cover my whole face; two pumps if you want to splurge

Wishlist for the Holiday Season

Here's a list of what I want, hopefully it will be a "beautiful" Christmas :)

1. Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation
2. Nyx long Lip Pencil in Natural
3. Guerlain Bronzer-been wanting to try this
4. Tarte Tinted Moisturizer- have to finish my other TM though before buying this one
5. Bare Minerals Lipstick in Cream Puff

MakeUp Review: Bloom Lip gloss

Dr.Evil is at it again with the gloss. Found a new favorite from Bloom. It's called Pout and it's pinkish-brown. The shade is similar to that of Fusion Beauty's Bare. It's a bit sheer and the glossiness doesn't die so I'm not afraid to wear it alone. It's also way cheaper than Fusion Beauty. But one thing I don't like is the applicator. It gets so little of the color that I have to keep putting it back in the container to get more of it. Too much arm exercise for me hahaha. But still a good investment.

Check out Bloom's Makeup line at Beauty Bar. I'm sure you'll find something to bring home.

Beauty Vitamins

MakeUp shouldn't be the end all and be all of looking fabulous. Not that having dozens of foundation is a crime....never!!! But having healthy and glowing skin should be your no.1 priority. Over the years I've taken these vitamins not just for its health benefits but I've found them to have improved the appearance of my skin.

Vitamin E- an anti-oxidant which protects you from sun exposure and anti-aging because it reduces fine lines and wrinkles
Omega 3 essential fatty acids-good for dry skin, controls whiteheads and blackheads
Vitamin C- a skin brightener and it lightens dark spots
Vitamin B- prevents acne and maintains skin tone
Zinc- good for those with thinning hair, prevents acne too
Vitamin k- reduces circles under the eye

Hope this helps, it's never too late to nourish the skin. :D

Makeup Tool Review: Shu Uemura Eyelash Curler

For years I have been using a rinky-dink eye lash curler because I never knew any better.  Was I wrong??!!
Finally I have the Shu Uemura eye lash curler and I am so happy! (Thanks Hikaru!)

Some people say that they are all the same....uh, No!

1. The size and frame of the curler is not so big that it will pinch your eye lids. They now came up with a mini eyelash curler to curl your shortest lashes!

2. The pad is made of silicone and it gives you a nice curl and not the usual L shape

3. The handle size is just right that it fits your fingers perfectly

4. Comes with a spare rubber (yey!)

Available at Rustan's Department Store for about Php1,000.00 (or more) I think.  It's worth every peso if you ask me.

See you soon!

Haircare review: Osis Volume Cream and Back to Basics Reparative Conditioning Balm

I recently had my hair permed just to see how I would look in it. But I told my stylist (Alex), "please nothing too kinky please." Showed him pictures from magazines and he knew right away what I meant. I didn't know it was going to be a challenge to maintain those curls and make sure that the ends (of my hair) stay well conditioned. So I had to invest in 2 products for my everyday routine.

Back To Basics Reparative Conditioning Balm (Green tea)- This I use after shampooing. I leave it on for at least 3 minutes then rinse. I love the smell and makes my hair really soft.

Osis Volume Cream-My stylist used this one when my hair was already towel dried. Mostly at the ends by scrunching it. It really helps cause it creates more body. After that I use a dryer directed at the curls to make them shiny. Available at Studio Fix by Alex Carbonell at Greenbelt 5.

I'm getting used to these products and I'm beginning to like the fact that I don't have to use the dryer as much as I used to. My hair says thanks! :))

Makeup Review: Benefit Sugarbomb

Sugarbomb is the latest addition to the Box O' Powder series.  It
contains 4 shades in 1 box, bright pink, light pink, peach and a light purple.

PACKAGING:  As part of the box o' powder set, Sugarbomb
comes in a box with a mini brush

SCENT:  Has a slight floral scent which I love

TEXTURE: Definitely very silky

COLOR PAYOFF:  Bright pink - very pigmented
Light pink - very pigmented as well
Peach - a very light hint of peach with shimmer
Light Purple - a very light purple almost similar to the Light pink with little shimmer

Sugarbomb can be used as a highlighter on the top of your cheeks; a face brightener or an all over face powder.  Reminds me of Benefit's Dandelion but with a bit more shimmer and color variation.

Available at Gorgeousmestore.

See you next time!

Makeup Review: The Balm Time Balm Concealer

SIZE: This concealer comes in a screw top container having a weight of 7.5 grams with a price of Php795.00

TEXTURE: It is creamy and moisturizing; no need to use an eye cream
if you're going to apply it the under eye area; lightweight

SHADE: I'm an NC35 in MAC and with the Time Balm Concealer I
got the mid-medium shade; on the magazine, they have 6 available
shades from Lighter than Light to Medium Dark but the Beauty Bar I went to only had 3 shades, mid medium being their darkest

APPLICATION: I mainly use it on my zit bumps to lessen the look of the bump; on the days when my skin is cooperating I use this concealer instead of a full faced foundation - I applied it under my eyes, on my age spots/sun spots and on the sides of  my nostrils and I was able to even out my skin; I apply a light dusting of powder to set everything and I was done!

OVERALL: A new discovery!!!

Available at Beauty Bar.

See you soon!

MakeUp Brush Review: Japonesque Foundation Brush and Blush Brush

One of our followers recommended this brand for me to try. Good thing it's available at Beauty Bar. They also have travel sizes so there's no excuse not to bring them along on long trips.

Foundation Brush- One of my favorites now. Bristles are soft and no streaks are evident. Price at P2,000 plus but really worth every cent. Easy to clean.

Blush Brush- Just got this yesterday with L. Price is also the same range as the foundation but what made me decide to buy it, is that it has many uses. It's not just a blush brush but it can also be used when applying all-over powder and bronzer. So your money is working double time for this one.

Thanks Nadine!:)

MakeUp Review: Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation

Kimmy recommended this to me being a Bobbi Brown afficionado. So I did. Now it's on my wish list. It's just like a tinted moisturizer but slightly thicker. The shade is Natural #4 which is perfect for my medium skintone. It has this weightless feeling and the coverage is fantastic. It also helps that you use a good foundation brush to make sure you're whole face is evenly covered.

Available at Rustan's (Makati).

What to bring to the Beach

For my birthday me and my husband are going to the beach ( Yey! Boracay!) and here are some items I will be bringing with me.

1. Sunblock
2. Lip Balm preferably with SPF in it
3. MAC's Fix +
4. Leave in conditioner - to be applied 15 minutes before going to the beach and after (that's what my stylist said)
5. Skin Mattifier - to be applied before partying at night :)
6. 1 Lipstick
7. Blotting Papers
8. Eyelash Curler

I will take a break from all the foundations and powders and let my skin breathe.  Hopefully I will have a nice healthy glow when I get back.

Do you think I am forgetting something?

footnote: basic toiletries are a given okay?

MakeUp Review: Bare Minerals Lipstick

This lipstick has so much potential. Besides being comparable to Mac (price wise), packaging is also simple but I prefer this one. It's classier I think. The shade I just tried is called Cream Puff. Again, it's a nude color more on the mauve-beige side. At first, application is not as smooth as I would hope for but when it's on the lips the color shines. I suppose the reason is that all their ingredients are 100% natural so it's not only the color you're after but its long-lasting hydration which is good for your lips.

NOW AVAILABLE AT GorgeousMeStore !

Haircare Review: Lush Coolaulin Conditioner

Since I am on a path to hair recovery I wanted a conditioner that will help my tresses.  The sales associate at Lush suggested this and said that this will make my hair shiny and new and it does not affect color treated hair she said...of course, desperate as I am I believed.  BIG MISTAKE!  I read on the Lush website that continual usage of this conditioner will lighten your hair.  I can't have that since I just dyed my hair dark brown.  Good thing I only bought the small bottle which is about Php295.00

So before buying any hair product at Lush, make sure you do your own research first rather than just taking the sales person's word for it.

That'll learn me :((((

Haircare Review: Lush New Hair Shampoo Bar

After a session of digiperm and  highlights a few months back I have decided to revert back to my original hair color (which is dark brown) and try to improve its condition.

After a long hiatus from Lush I decided to indulge once more. First on my radar, a shampoo.  I was skeptical at first because I didn't think this would lather at all, from the looks of it.  I was hugely mistaken, thank goodness! With just a small application on my hair I had a head full of lather...nice! Smells wonderful too! Reminds of Dentyn Gum :)

According to Lush this is good for dull and falling hair.  I will have to wait about a week or so before I can accurately say if this improved my hair condition.  I will write an update in about a week's time.  But if this does not do anything I would still repurchase because it just made shampooing my hair fun again :)....(cheap thrills) :)))

Makeup Review: Coastal Scents Metal Mania Palette

coastalscents.com
I was looking for the Urban Decay Naked Palette but it's still out of stock so I decided to get this one instead.  Has 88 colors and most of them have a very good color payoff.  The shades vary from neutral browns, purples, greens and even reds/pink.  Even though I will not use some of the colors, it is always nice to have just in case I have a costume party to go to :).
They are easy to blend and but some of the shadows have a tendency to be chalky.  For it to last I always use an eyelid primer underneath.  I think it is a good enough alternative to the Naked Palette until I get my hands on one :) - I am just after the neutrals anyway....

October Favorites 2010

This month I have been loving the following:

1. Lips - Laura Mercier Lip Velvet in Royal Plum and NYX Mega Shine Lip Gloss in Natural because I am giving my nude lippies a break :).  The Royal Plum is too dark that's why I top it off with a Natural gloss.  And after a mug of coffee, I still have lipstick on which is definitely a good thing!

2. Eyes - Benefit Creaseless Cream Eye Shadow in Skinny Jeans and I use the Gunmetal Shade and the shimmery Taupe from Smashbox Beauty A-GO-GO Color Palette to have the neutral smokey look

3. Cheeks - Benefit Powder Blush in Dallas only because I have neglected this blush for a while now

4. Face - Laura Mercier Silk Creme Foundation in Bamboo Beige.  Still doing the foundation rotation system...( I seriously need to find a new foundation...I'm getting tired of the ones I have) :) excuses excuses :)

5. Brush - Hakuhodo G527.  An amazing brush; can be used for liquid foundation or loose powder; does not cause streaking; a bit pricey ($54.00) but definitely worth it

What are your favorites this month?

See you next time!

Shopping for MakeUp kits

There are several stores that have a variety of pouches that can mask as a makeup kit. Some buy based on how much cosmetics it can carry, how many compartments it has, how much it costs or simply how cute they are. Here are some of the stores I'd like you to check out just in case you're in the Makeup kit shopping mode.

1. Muji- which just opened its first store here in Manila (Bonifacio High Street). They have all sorts of stuff such as travel pouches, stackable trays, bottle pumps, toiletry case, clear plastic pouches, and much more.
2. Rustan's- they carry the "old school" type of cosmetic cases. Those that are basically made of fabric covered with plastic making it waterproof especially for those bringing it to the beach. Designs are zzzzz but I know some prefer it plain and simple.
3. Beauty Bar- They have this brand called Wicked Sista. They are also covered with plastic but the designs are more fun. Colors are brighter and the prints are animated. I do find it a bit pricey though but worth looking into.

Makeup Review: Jane Iredale concealer

This brand was recommended by the facialist of Dermalogica because  it is organic and is mineral based.  According to the facialist even pregnant women can use this brand. Only 2 shades of the concealer were available and I chose medium dark.  It comes in a squeeze-y tube and has a sponge tip.  The texture felt like a cream to powder consistency and it is very light on the skin.  Easy to blend and try not to use too much for it might settle into the fine lines (that's if you have any, like I do).

Available at Rustan's.

Makeup Review: Shu Uemura Eyebrow Pencil in Hard Formula

I was looking for an eyebrow pencil that wouldn't disappear or melt during the day and I was told that this was a good buy.  So I went and bought.  The Shu counter at Rustans only had 1 shade, shade 6 which
I felt was still kind of light for my hair color but the makeup artist insisted that it matched.  After a few tries at home I decided that it was too light :(  All is not lost.  Shu describes this formula as smudge proof and when I drew a line on the back of my hand and tried smudging it, it didn't move! But how come on my brows it does? hmmm....I think the sweat on my face is the culprit.
But I am not about to give up using this pencil, not for what I paid for it.  I think the only way for a pencil to stay on my brows is when used with a gel or a brow wax to seal it in place.

Available at Rustan's.

Makeup Review: Hakuhodo Makeup Brush

 Hakuhodo Brush G527

I have heard this brush from 2 youtube makeup gurus, Misschievous and Pixiwoo and they raved about the brand.  So that got me curious.  I finally have 1 (thanks to Hikaru!)and..... it's AMAZING! Very dense and super soft; doesn't cause streaking; although it did shed a few strands but that's okay by me.  It can be used for liquid foundation and loose powder.   A must have!!!

Check out Hakuhodo to see other brushes.

MakeUp Review: Rimmel 1000 kisses Lipliner

My sister gave this to me a couple of weeks back and I never returned it to. You
obviously know why. I can't part with it. It's been my favorite lipliner so far, to think I
never had an addiction with any lipliner before. I tried the one of Prestige but didn't like it.
One reason lipliners are used is to seal in the lipstick because of its tendency to bleed.
This one of Rimmel does just that. And it doesn't wash off easily. The shade (Tiramisu)
is perfect with the Cle de Peau nudes that I bought. It's on the brownish/pink side. It has suddenly become the exclusive partner of both.

Not currently available here but soon I hope. :))

Makeup Review: Prestige Browliner / Crayon a Sourcils

This eyebrow pencil has a mini brush attached on the cap which is why I bought it.  The shade is Earth Brown and from what I recall, this line came in 2 shades, this and a lighter brown.  What I like about this pencil is that it doesn't rub off easily.  Yes it gets smudged a little but not completely.  When used with a brow gel, it lasted the whole day on my brows.  It is very convenient to use because of the mini brush attached onto the cap.

This is available at Beauty Bar at Php247.00

Makeup Review: Makeup Forever Mat Velvet + Foundation

I have been wanting to get this foundation for a very long time and thank goodness I was not disappointed when I did finally buy it.

SHADE: The artist had a bit of a difficult time matching my skin tone from what they had; for reference I am an NC35 with MAC and with MUFE, I am shade 40

TEXTURE: It has a very creamy and slightly thick consistency but not watery; it is very easy to blend on your skin, as long as you use a dense brush

FINISH: Although it says mat it still had a dewy finish but not as shiny as when I used the Laura Mercier Oil-free Foundation; set with powder and your face is completely  matte

PACKAGING: It comes in a plastic squeeze bottle; easy to use but you have to shake the bottle before using and when you do that, the foundation oozes out so you need to close the lid as soon as possible!

Makeup Review: Bloom Eye Shadow in Bleu

I was given this eye shadow by a good friend and I was excited because I have never tried an eye shadow from this brand.  I was so surprised that the color was the same as the Laura Mercier Marina, and not just the color, but the texture too!  I'm pretty sure the price is not as expensive  so it is a must try/buy.  The colors that are available are what I call 'basic', nothing outrageous and I think you have around 12 shades to choose from.  The shadow was easy to blend and it has a smooth texture.  But I noticed that this Bleu turned silvery after an hour.

Available at Beauty Bar.

Thanks for stopping by and see you next time!

MakeUp Review: MakeUp Forever Concealer Full Coverage

I read about this in Allure magazine (October 2010) and they consider it the Best concealer out there. I got the full coverage, meaning it's mainly for scars. Yet it didn't stop me from buying it even if I was only going to use it for my dark circles. Here's why I like it:

1. It's not heavy on the skin particularly around my dark circles where I normally use it for. The cream is so smooth and hydrating so it doesn't sit on the lines underneath the eyes.
2. A small amount goes a long way, so no worries of running out when you use it everyday
3. No need for a concealer brush, your fingertips are fine.

It's pricey for a concealer but hey, would you sacrifice looking like someone just took a jab at you.

Makeup Review: Benefit It Stick

Conceal it all Stick/ Stick Camouflage

This concealer is in a stick form and it has a flesh/light beige tint to it.  Once you apply, all you need to do is tap to blend onto your skin.  This  It Stick is better for concealing dark spots rather than under eye circles. Unfortunately, this is no longer available at Benefit's online store but I am sure there are still other places where they sell it.  It is very creamy and it comes in 1 shade only.  Very convenient to bring especially for people who travel a lot.

Thanks for stopping by and see you next time!

Makeup Tip: Covering acne with makeup

tiSome of us are not as lucky to have the perfect skin, I should know, I go through this dilemma every month (arrggghhhh!).  But all is not lost, there are things we can do to minimize the look of those pesky zits.

1. I learned that there are concealers that are acne spots and concealers for acne itself

2. For acne spots one can use a concealer in a lighter shade to be able to even out the color

3.  For acne itself, one should use a concealer with the same shade as your skin.  If you use a lighter shade this will enhance the bump rather than conceal it.

Hope you found this helpful.  Thanks for stopping by and see you next time!

Makeup Review: Nude Lips for the Medium-Medium Dark Skin tone

One of our followers recently suggested we recommend the best nude lipsticks for the medium-medium dark skin tone. Based on what I've seen in the magazines nudes in the brown side are the most attractive for them.  Here are some of my picks but of course it all depends on you.

1. Bobbi Brown in Cocoa-this is my top pick. Softer shade of brown.
2. Bobbi brown in Hot Cocoa-this one is a bit darker
3. Clinique's Chocolate Ice- this one is sheer, more on the brown/plum side

I hope one of them finds it's way into your collection. When in doubt go natural. :)

Makeup Review: Maybelline The Magnum Volum' Express Waterproof Mascara

Another mouthful but I actually liked using this  mascara.

Brush: Has shorter and long bristles

Texture: Kind of thick but not runny nor is it too dry; not clumpy at all ( Yes!)

Feel on the lashes: I love how my lashes are not stiff, it still feels like normal lashes

Look: made my lashes look thicker

Overall: a success! and I will definitely repurchase

Hope this helps and thanks for stopping by!

MakeUp Review: Lorac Perfectly Lit

I'm not so into shimmer but this one is an exception. The powder is very fine and it doesn't give too much of a shine so it's perfect for daytime. I use it on top of my bronzing powder and dust a bit on my nose, chin and forehead. The shade I have is called Spotlight and and it's now being featured in Allure Magazine (October 2010) as one of their Best Beauty Buys.

Makeup Tip: Day to night Makeup II

II. Somewhat made up for day/work

1. Of course you also need to blot the whole face to remove excess oil

2. Reapply crease shadow.  Then comes the eye liner, smudge after for that smokey look

3. Apply concealer under the eye area, the chin and middle of the forehead

4. Then comes blush

Makeup Tip: Day to Night Makeup

Here are some tips to help you transition your makeup look from day(work) to night (party time!) when you don't have the luxury of time to redo the entire makeup.

I. No-makeup Makeup Look for day/work
1. Blot the whole face with blotting sheet so that you won't remove the foundation you already have on

2. Reapply eye liner, preferably in black and then smudge it a bit so the line will not be too harsh unless that's what you're going for (like the Pin-up Look)

3. Apply some concealer under the eye area and remember to blend

4. Remove lipstick and reapply, preferably in a deeper/darker shade

5. Reapply blush if you have it in you makeup bag

6. Light dusting of powder foundation/pressed powder

And voila! you're done.  Remember to check your teeth for excess lipstick before heading out.

Enjoy your night out ladies!

Hope this helps.  See you next time!

MakeUp Review: Nude Lipsticks/Gloss

Here are some my favorite nude lipsticks and a few that I've just discovered. They're perfect for the "no makeup" makeup look. Muah!

1.Mac Satin Lipstick in Spirit- highly pigmented but it's a bit hard to apply. Goes well with any skin tone and the finish is fantastic.
2.L'Oreal in Dune- a bit on the bronze side. Great for the beach.
3.Chanel In Mythic #69- lightly pigmented so I add gloss on top
4.Cle De Peau #103-very moisturizing, does not wash out easily
5.Laura Mercier in Brown Sugar- smooth application and very flattering
6.Fusion Beauty Gloss in Bare-on the pinkish side too, not too sticky, you get pouty lips

Treasure Finds 8

Some makeup alternatives I recently discovered.

High End: Benefit Eyebright
Alternative: e.l.f. Eyebrow Lifter and Filler; comes in 3 shades

High End: Duwop Reverse Lip Liner
Alternative: e.l.f. Lip Lock Pencil

Thanks for reading and see you next time!

Makeup Review: Prestige Liquid Eye liner

I have been trying to get into re-learning how to apply liquid eye liner that's why I have been trying out a few.

Unlike the Styli-style, this comes in a pot and has a shorter handle and somewhat thicker tip.  It is not as easy to hold especially for people with bigger hands (like me).  Just like with any type of liquid liner, it needs some getting used to.  Once applied, you need to give it a bit of time to dry or else it will smear onto your eye lids (a hassle).  Comes in different shades but I don't think I will repurchase, only because of the short length of the wand.

Also available at Beauty Bar and they're selling it at a very reasonable price.

Hope this helps and see you next time!

MakeUp Review: Giorgio Armani Sheer Bronzer

I bought the #5 shade (golden sand) which I found a bit too dark on my skin but I like its sheerness. The bronzer is very fine and it's not matte so I go easy on it. So what I did was use it as a contour then combine it with a soft pink blush. Better than letting it go to waste.

* Some tidbit.... Megan Fox (transformers babe) and Lady Gaga are among the celebrities that use them. Fox uses #5 and Lady Gaga uses #8.

Makeup Review: Styli-style Liquid Eyeliner

This brand is more popularly known for their pens.  Eyeliners, lip liners and shadow liners.  What I have is their felt tip liquid eye liner pen.  It is very easy to apply once you get the hang of it.  They have a variety of eye liner tips to choose from, just like pentel pens.  It does not smudge and it dries quickly.

Price is very affordable.  Available at Beauty Bar.

Practice makes perfect  :) Thanks for stopping by!

Makeup Tip: What are the products you can buy on the cheap

1. Mascara -  I think it's okay to buy the drugstore kind because some are very effective; and they dry out in 3 to 4 months anyway

2. Eye Shadows - they have a variety of colors and some are very pigmented; some are not too powdery which is a good thing

3. Blush - wide range of shades and some are very pigmented as well just like the more expensive ones

4. Lipstick - they have different finishes and an assortment of colors

You just need to keep an open mind and be a bit adventurous when it comes to trying out new(cheaper) brands.

Thanks for stopping by and see you next time!

MakeUp Brushes: What's worth your money and what's not

I remember using sponges to put on my foundation and that foam applicator that they include when buying an eyeshadow. I thought they were the best thing ever created until I discovered these brushes. I've had them for sometime now and I'm so happy I bought them. Here's what's in my collection, some though didn't impress me.

1. Mac #187 (blending brush for powder and pigmented color) - I use this as a foundation brush because it spreads out evenly around my face. Doesn't leave any streaks and bristles are soft. It's made of goat hair and synthetic fiber. Fabulous!

2. Mac #116 (blush brush)- Doesn't leave the blush concentrated on one spot. Easy to clean and doesn't shed too much.

3. Laura Mercier (powder blush)- I've had it for over 5 years now and it's still in good shape. It's fluffy and I use it also as a bronzer brush sometimes.

4. Benefit Slant Brush- Not a good brush. Loses it's shape and hard to clean.
5. Chanel Kabuki Brush- This one I got the same time as the LM. Still alive and kicking. So full and soft. I use it with my setting powder. I'm not sure If they still have it today.

6. Sonia Kashuk (foundation brush)- This is a good alternative if you don't want to spend too much on a foundation brush. Does the job well, no streaks. Available at Target.

7. Stila Eyeshadow brush #15 and #5- One I use as a highlighter on my brow bone, the other on my lids. Hohum on these two...

Thanks for visiting us. Check our Webstore for new brushes we'll be having in a few weeks.

Makeup Tips: What makeup/skincare products are worth spending for

I buy some high end products because some of them are actually better than their cheaper counter part.  Here are some products that I think are worth spending for.

1. Eye cream - you will want something that is actually effective

2. Face Primer/ Eye Primer - so far I haven't found a cheap primer that actually works but not all high end primers work too

3. Foundation - high end ones have a better shade selection and I have tried 1 drugstore brand and it was an epic failure ( didn't like the feel on my skin plus the salesperson suggested the wrong shade for me)

4. Makeup Brushes - it's rare to find great cheap brushes but I am pretty sure it's out there; but 1 thing I am sure about is that it won't be as soft as those brushes that are a bit more expensive; it's okay to spend more on your tools because they will last you years if you take care of them properly.

Makeup Review: Loose Powders

A list of some of the loose powders available that we've tried.

1.Make Up Forever HD Microfinish Powder -  By Dr. Evil. I definitely recommend this to women who want to minimize their pores. I'm so impressed with it. So fine to the touch and when you put it on it doesn't scream "sahara" on your skin. I concentrate mostly on my t-zone and chin. This powder has been included in InStyle's Beauty Best Buys several times. Price is mid-range and available at their Store in Bonifacio High Street.

2. Laura Mercier Loose Setting Powder - Has a beige tint and works great in setting your under eye concealer.  You can use the velour puff or a small fluffy brush to apply.  It has a powdery texture.  What I have came with a concealer duo, and I would definitely repurchase a solo jar once I'm out.  A must-have in my opinion.  Price is around Php1,500.00 ( I think, don't quote me pls.) and it is available at Rustan's Department Store.

3. Bare Escentuals Mineral Veil - Has a light pinkish tint and the texture is very fine but not the powdery type.  Available in 2 shades, light and dark.  Currently not available here in Manila.  Not something I would go out of my way to purchase.

footnote:  I noticed that whenever I would use a translucent(white) loose powder, my skin would look kind of ashy.  That's why I lean towards those that have a beige/yellow tint to them.  Does that happen to you?

Makeup Wish List October 2010

I love writing these posts because I get to dream out loud....well, sort of :)
Here are some things that are in my radar.....

I. FACE
a. Clinique Acne Solutions Liquid Foundation - to help my skin clear up; hopefully it will work
b. Smashbox Tinted Moisturizer - for those days when I don't feel like using a liquid foundation and my skin is cooperating :)
c. Makeup Forever Mat Velvet + Foundation - I've heard a lot of good things about this foundation that's why I want to give it a go.  Let's see how matte this is on my skin :)
*will be buying it this Thursday..YEY!!!a review will follow in a week's time*

II. EYES
a. Urban Decay Naked Palette - It's always out of stock!!! 12 shades of neutral colors ranging from shimmer to matte finishes

MakeUp Reviews: Chanel Lipshine in Panarea #93 and Diorskin Long-lasting Setting powder 001

Chanel Lipshine- This shade is on the berry/plum side, a bit sheer with a hint of shimmer. It can also pass as a neutral color so you can pair it with any shade. I like it because it stays on even after I drink. Price is on the up and up but worth checking out.

Diorskin LL Setting Powder-This was given to me by L for Christmas. I read about it in a magazine along with its positive reviews. The texture is like that of Makeup Forever's HD Microfinish powder, fine and smooth to the touch. It's Translucent and doesn't give you that parched look. One of my favorite powders.

What I'm loving lately:

1. Lip Butter in Plum-so rich in color it's like lipstick

2. MakeUp Forever aqua eyes eyeliner- Bought the shades 19L (brown) and 4L (berry/plum),
3. N.Y.C. Waterproof eyeliner - Moody Blue
4. Bobbi Brown Creamy Concealer- to cover my dark circles
5. Chanel Kabuki Brush-bristles are so full and soft

Skincare Review: Face Creams/Moisturizer

Once we reach a certain age we need to think about how to preserve our youthful skin or prevent it from aging before its time.  Here are some of the creams I've tried and what I think of them.

1. Aveeno Clear Complexion Daily Moisturizer - contains salicylic acid to help prevent breakouts.  My skin felt soft and smooth the next morning; it controlled the oil production the next morning

2. Dermalogica Active Moist - definitely controlled the oil the next morning but skin was not as smooth as when I used Aveeno; I only use it at night before going to bed

3. Murad Essential -C Day Moisture with SPF 30 -I was apprehensive to use this in the morning because it does not say that it is oil-free so I applied it at night; it did not leave my skin feeling greasy when I woke up in the morning (I was surprised!); nice because it has an SPF 30 in it

4. Rare Minerals Purely Nourishing Facial Moisturizer -  I have this in a sample size and from the reviews I have read I am now afraid to try it; common thread is that it caused them to breakout...yikes!!! after all the work I have done to help clear my skin I am not about to mess it all up.  Sorry guys.....not going to risk it

Makeup Review: Smashbox Beauty A-GO-GO Color Palette

This is the very first product I bought from Smashbox.  In the palette you have 8 eye shadow colors, 2 highlighters, 4 lip glosses and 2 travel brushes (1 lip brush and 1 eye shadow brush)

Packaging:
1. comes in a small black book and has a divider that separates  the eye shadows from the highlighters and glosses
2. it also came in a leather zipper pouch which can be used for something else other than makeup

Texture:
1. the eye shadows are very silky and pigmented; not chalky but when you pack a lot of it onto your brush you might have some fall out so be sure to tap off the excess before application
2. easy to blend
3. cream highlighters are pigmented as well; not too shimmery
4. the glosses are on the soft side (consistency)

MakeUp Review: Neutrogena Natural Radiance Bronzer

It's really hard to find a bronzer that's close to your skin tone and not having too much of that shimmer that you look like you're trying too hard. So finally, after scouting around the usual brands, I found this one and the beauty of it is it didn't cost me an arm and a leg.

There are 3 things I like about it.
First, it's matte.
Second, because there are 3 shades offered in one palette you have to combine them using a brush and sweep it over your cheeks to give you that elusive natural glow.
And thirdly, the price.

I use it as a contour to highlight my cheekbones with a dab of light pink blush on top but lately it's my go-to blush. Can't go wrong with this one I tell you.

Makeup Review: Benefit Dallas Blush

This is my first Benefit Blush and that's one of the reasons why I love it dearly.  Aside from that... its shade is on the mauve side and I believe it is great for ladies who want a darker shade of blush as opposed to the usual baby pink or peach.
It comes with a square brush and it has a slight floral  scent.  According to Benefit, this blush is for those who want to achieve an outdoor glow.  I don't know about that but I still like how the shade looks on my skin tone.

Makeup Review: Clinique Blushing Blush Powder Blush

A mouthful to say isn't it? :)
photo from clinique.com

As with other Clinique make up products, they don't have a lot of shades to choose from.  They are what you can call ' basic' shades.  Nothing too bright nor is it too dark.  I like it because it is very pigmented, I don't use the brush that comes with it because I'm pretty sure it will pack a lot of product and I will look like a clown.  Packaging is Clinique's usual silver container with a big mirror inside and it's sturdy.

Shades vary from pink to mauve but I am not sure if all shades are available here in Manila.  Try your luck.  Clinique is available at Rustan's Department Store.

Thanks for stopping by!

Skincare Review: Sunblock

We need to use sunblock everyday... when we go out and even when we're staying home watching tv or using the pc.  Here are some that I have tried.

1. Neutrogena SPF 50 with Helioplex - can used on the face and body; no scent; not sticky
2. Shelter by Philosophy - has an SPF of 30; has a beige tint; has a very dewy finish on me
3. Sunblock from my Derma - SPF 30; gel form so it's good for those with oily skin; the only thing I don't like about it is the small container; but a staple in my collection

From Dr. Evil
1. Face It HD perfect BB by face shop- lightly tinted, not so easy to spread. Sometimes I use this as my foundation.
2. Avene spf 30 - this is for dry sensitive skin. Good for cold weather. Light on the skin, easily absorbed.
3. Heliocare spf 30- also tinted, light on the skin; wasn't greasy at all; Love it.

What is your favorite sunblock?

Makeup Review: Makeup Brushes....SIGMA

photo from google images
I learned about this brand from different blogs I've read and on Youtube.  What I got was the 1st Complete Kit without the Brush Roll.Included are:
1. SS 150 - big fluffy powder/blush brush
2. SS187 -  duo fiber; I use it to apply liquid foundation or blush (when the blush is very pigmented this brush won't grab too much product)
3. SS168 - angled face brush; I use it for contouring; I had a difficult time rinsing the shampoo out of the brush
4. SS190 - foundation brush; hardly use it because I prefer the flat buffer or the 109 for liquid foundations
5. SS 239 - packs a whole lot of color
6. SS 252 - bigger version of the MAC 242; I use it apply my lid color;

Skincare Review: Acne Kit III

Clinique Acne Solutions

This kit includes a Cleansing Foam, Clarifying lotion (aka toner) and a Clearing Moisturizer.  You may also want to get the Spot Healing Gel a pimple medicine for acne spots/blemishes.

I have used the following:
Clarifying Lotion ( #4) - this toner was a bit painful every time I use it after a facial treatment.  It did its job in cleaning my face further.

Spot Healing Gel - this formula worked on me for about 2 years, but after that I had to look for another spot medicine.  i think my skin got immune to the formula, I am not sure.

Clinique used to have a spot treatment formula which you can use at night only.  That medicine really worked on me.  Unfortunately, I believe Clinique discontinued it.  Too bad :(

Powder Comparison: Loose or Pressed

I asked several women what they liked/disliked about the Loose Powder and the same for the Pressed/Compact Powder. Here's a summary:
LOOSE POWDER
Pros- Finely milled, very light to the touch and very versatile
       - Can be used to set make up
       - Helps clean eye shadow fallout
       - One shade fits all

Cons- Cannot be used alone as a foundation

PRESSED POWDER
Pros- Easy to carry around
       - Can be used as a foundation
          - Can be used to set make up
       - Can be used wet or dry

Cons- too many shades to choose from
        - gets too oily unless one uses a mattifier before putting it on

It's really up to you what you prefer. It's good to try both to see for yourself. Happy Hunting! :)

Skincare Review: Acne Kits II

On a Clear Day Skin System by Philosophy
This system really helped me control my breakout.  This kit includes a cleanser, oil-free moisturizer, clarifying lotion and a spot treatment. It may be a bit on the expensive side but it gave me a very positive result.  The only thing I didn't like about it was the old container of the spot treatment.  It used to be a serum that was in a blue bottle with a rubberized medicine dropper/cap.  After a month or so, the rubber cap melted! Of course that dried up the serum faster than you can say "pimple free".  Good thing Philosophy revamped the packaging.

Available at Beauty Bar.

Hope this helps and thank you for stopping by!
